Probaibility Carnival
BC Grade 8 Math IRPs: -Solve problems involving the probability of independent events
Reflection: The Probability Carnival is the last unit we do in Math 8. After a year of number problems, calculations, tests, drills and homework, it's meant to be a nice end to a gruelling year of learning. It's a chance for students to play before and during the carnival. This is reflected in my requirements:
In this probability carnival you and a partner are to make a provability game that will include these criteria-
1. When a person plays your game, there is less than 50% chance of winning. It's best to have the chance between 30-49% chance.
2. Each time the game is played, it is an independent event
3. Look AMAZING!
4. Be fun to play
5. Involve at least one simple machine
6. The game should be able to played one time per one minute
I teach the basics of independent events but allow the students to let their imaginations go wild. Purposely I put few requirements so that students can discover what they want to create for themselves. The success of this project is often on how much fun students have in creating and building the games.
